Porty Park

Hi,

I wanted to draw your attention to this important petition that I recently signed:

“PROTECT GREEN SPACE ACROSS SCOTLAND”

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/protect-green-space-across-scotland/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=system&utm_campaign=Send%2Bto%2BFriend

I really think this is an important cause, and I’d like to encourage you to add your signature, too. It’s free and takes just a few seconds of your time.

Thanks!

  1. The petition is misleading in claiming that “In September 2012, the Court of Session confirmed that the Park is inalienable common good land” No court has ever ruled on whether the park is common good or not. The fact is that both parties did agree that it was and so the question was never put at issue in the case.

  2. But should CEC really be doing what they are doing?

  3. CEC have considerable local support. The consultation on the proposed Bill attracted 10,000 responses across the city, with 70% in favour. Of respondents from the local area, 76% were in favour. There are reasons for that,

This has been an ongoing issue for over 7 years and, whilst building on greenspace is never ideal, the majority of local people support it because the park is by far the best site for the school. There would still be 2.2Ha of park left around the school, as well as 2 full sized, freely accessible, all-weather pitches, and the adjacent golf-course would remain. In addition there would be a new 2.2Ha park created on the existing schools site meaning the net loss of Open Space would only be 0.4Ha.
